The mentoring program is set up to assist less experienced pilots in the league meet.
WHO
Pilots flying LTF rated gliders of 1, 1-2 and 2 will be assigned a main mentor and a reserve mentor. Those flying LTF rated gliders of 2-3 and above will not be assigned a mentor.
You should make contact with your main mentor to check to see if he will be attending the league meet you wish to attend. If they are not attending you are encouraged to contact your reserve mentor. You may use the yahoo groups to see check on mentor availability.
Your mentor is designated by their pilot ID. Only those pilots flying competition rated gliders are mentors (apart from Tom). Your assigned mentor is shown on the pilot ID page.
HOW
You should make contact with your mentor by email at least one week prior to the league meet. Your mentor will assist you in ensuring that you have uploaded waypoints into your GPS, your radio , GPS and vario all have fully charged batteries and that you have downloaded and printed the appropriate maps for the site we will visit. He will aslo address any questions you might have concerning logistics of how to get to the site, how to car pool and what the food and overnight arrangements will be.
On the Saturday morning when we meet at the initial meeting place, your mentor will help ensure that you have all the items you need for going to launch and help you find a place in a vehicle.
On launch you should sort out your gear. Once the task has been set you should meet with your mentor to make sure you input the task correctly into your GPS. Your mentor will also talk through some strategies for the task to help you fly as far as possible. This will include a visualisation of the waypoints, weather conditions and potential rotors, thermal trigger points, and route selections.
When your mentor gets back in the evening, you will meet to debrief on how the flight went.
This will be repeated for the Sunday task.
